In Memoriam – Dr. Joe Clayton Tournage, Ph.D.
Dr. Tournage was a long-time supporter and friend of ISIT-Austin. His loss will be deeply felt within our community and beyond. To honor his legacy, we have preserved his place on our leadership team.
Dr. Joe Clayton Turnage holds a Ph.D. In Nuclear Engineering with a minor in Public Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has served as a senior executive for several power generation companies and has founded three successful consulting companies.
He currently is a member of various industry groups seeking to support new nuclear deployments including the NEI New Plant Working Group, the Utility Advisory Committee – Idaho National Laboratory, and acts as an advisor to the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research.
Previously, Dr. Turnage served as Chairman of the Nuclear Advisory Board at General Atomics. He advised the Secretary of Energy on the future of Nuclear Power and was on the Board of Directors for NuScale Power.
His experience in the power industry includes working as the Senior Vice President Strategy & Infrastructure for UniStar Nuclear Energy, the Senior Vice President for Constellation Power, Inc., and the Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer for PG&E National Energy Group.
Dr. Turnage is designated as a Distinguished Engineering Fellow by MSU. He was a finalist in 2010 Platts Lifetime Achievement Award and a finalist in run-off election for ANS President. Whithin the American Nuclear Society, he was the Chairman of the Nuclear Reactor Safety Division Executive Committee and a Former member of the Board of Directors.
